Query: Is making these kind of illustrations/portraits permissible in Islam?
(The asker attached illustrations of men and women.)

اَلجَوَابْ بِاسْمِ مُلْہِمِ الصَّوَابْ

Is digital photo permissible in Islam or not? Islamic scholars have three opinions in that regard:

1.     It is prohibited.

2.     It is not a photo (which is prohibited according to Shariah), it is a mirror like reflection so it is permissible.

3.     It is photo but can be captured/illustrated in case of real need.

Respected Muftis of our Darulifta have the opinion that in fact, it is photo but due to different opinions on its permissibility, it is not prohibited in every situation. It would be prohibited if captured without any need and allowed if captured or illustrated for a permissible cause.

But it must be noted that all of them are agreed on prohibition of making photos of women or anything which cannot be seen by naked eye according to Shariah. So the photos of women (mentioned in the query) are not permissible except in the case of a serious need.
